Cool Activity Zone (CAZ), a community interest company

Cool Activity Zone (CAZ) was conceived by West Molesey resident Dick MooreAn organisation aiming to help disadvantaged Elmbridge children get involved in different activities has been granted £200 from the Esher Waitrose Community Matters scheme.

PC Phil Jebb, Youth Intervention Elmbridge Borough Community Safety Team, Surrey Police, contacted Mr. Moore about whether it would be possible for CAZ to help with two sport initiatives for disadvantaged young people in Elmbridge.

One initiative is an introduction to football skills for youngsters up to 11 years old and there other is boxing tuition.

Mr Moore said: "This is the third donation from Waitrose stores in Elmbridge and CAZ felt that these local inspired projects might be just the way to use the money received."

The aim of CAZ is to provide subsidised activities throughout Elmbridge for dis-advantaged families in sports such as boxing, fencing, martial arts, tai chi, yoga, pilates, cultural activities such as art & sculpture, life skill activities such as CV writing, interview techniques, career development & mentoring and vocational activities such as catering service & provision, basic vehicle maintenance.

CAZ is looking for some idea of what activities are wanted so that it can use the funds donated for the benefit of people in the community.

If anyone has any thought, ideas or suggestions, please contact CAZ and help them to move forward.

Waitrose in Walton Donation

Article in Surrey Advertiser 14th August 2015

A charity is still struggling to find an Elmbridge home after 18 months despite receiving donations from the likes of Waitrose.

Cool Activity Zone C.I.C. (CAZ) will provide sports and activities to less fortunate members of the Elmbridge community, particularly 16 to 24 year-olds, and received two donations through Waitrose's Community Matters (Green disc) scheme last week, from both the Walton and Weybridge stores. However, the charity is currently homeless and may need to outpost operations around the borough, but 'would be a more flexible operation' in one location. Back in June, founder of the charity, Dick Moore, emailed members and staff at Elmbridge Borough Council saying it was impossible to secure sites or properties to set up charity or social enterprises in Elmbridge. He said: "Being one of the handful of wealthiest boroughs in the country 'not for profit' projects have no chance of competing for locations against the lucrative commercial sector. Ignoring the plight of financially and socially deprived Elmbridge residents will only result in problems in the future".
